Your family's privacy
We store the least we can, and the most personal things never leave your phone.
Our promises
- Photos stay on your phone. Your child's profile photo and the scoresheet photos you add are saved inside the app. The app never uploads them. A scoresheet leaves the phone only when you tap Share and choose where it goes.
- Notes and the tournament diary stay on your phone. Homework, questions for the coach, lesson notes and diary entries are kept in the app. Nothing goes to a club or coach unless you share it yourself.
- Registration details are locked on your phone. Full names, birthdays, school and your contact details are kept in the iPhone's secure storage (the Keychain). They are only used when you tap Fill on an organizer's registration form, and they are never sent to us.
- Your home address stays on your phone. If you add it, it's kept in the iPhone's secure storage and used only to show how far each tournament is and to open directions. The phone looks addresses up with Apple Maps; your address is never sent to us.
- You always press Submit. The app fills in forms for you to check. It never submits a form, signs your child up or pays for anything.
- Ratings come straight from US Chess. We use your child's US Chess ID to read their public rating record. Nothing else about your child is sent to US Chess.
- Calendars are yours. When you add a tournament or class to your calendar, the event (with your child's nickname) goes into the calendar you choose on your phone, and syncs wherever that calendar does, such as iCloud or Google. The Google Calendar button opens Google's own page with the event, including the nickname, filled in for you to save.
- No ads, no tracking, nothing sold. We will never sell or share your family's information or use it for advertising.
- Today, nothing is on our server. Like the rest of your iPhone, the app's data is included in your own iCloud or computer backup if you use one.
- Accounts keep the minimum. When family accounts arrive, only each child's nickname, grade, US Chess ID and colour will be saved to our server, so they come back on a new phone. Deleting your account removes them.
Kin Chess is not yet released. Our full privacy policy will be published on this page before the app is available.
